ESRI UC #2

Well here we are at Thursday and I'm finally getting to a post.

It's been a whirlwind 4 days.  The plenary session on Monday was another good start to the UC.  This year's theme is: Applying Geography Everywhere.  Jack Dangermond kicked off the day with some highlights and trends in GIS.  A number of presentations followed and the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is doing some cool stuff on the 3D stove of things.  The upcoming mobile apps: WorkForce and Navigator, look impressive.

The highlights for me in the afternoon were Dr. Bruce Aylward from the World Health Organization who gave another very compelling talk.  Last year he talked on the work being done to eradicate polio globally.  This year his talk was on the recent ebola outbreak, and it was an amazing talk.  I was also surprised at Governor Martin O’Malley's talk.  He provided some interesting insights into his time as the mayor of Baltimore and Governor of Maryland and some of the things he did to improve government transparency and how GIS enabled that work.  I say I was surprised, because he was such an engaging speaker even if he was a little 'politiciany' at times,  but that was to be expected ☺

Other highlights as far as the sessions I've attended so far:
- AppStudio looks very impressive for generating native iOS, Android, and Windows apps for the most common devices from a single development environment. Very cool!!!

- Collector for ArcGIS: The most recent version finally has the capability to deal with offline related records. This is a huge,  and needed improvement, and now makes Collector a truly viable data collection application.
